Description

(sorry, deleted and reposted this costume because I wanted to change the order they showed up)

Sky Doll is a gorgeous, gorgeous comic. I've wanted to make this ever since I read the fan translations a few years ago. (Marvel has since licensed it and distributed it under their Soleil line- GO BUY IT.)

Noa's costume presented several difficulties. First, the boob window. Second, the hat. Third, the... everything else.

I built a fake chest out of spherical funnels that was worn like a bra. This was remarkable in the fact that it turned out EXACTLY as I envisioned. And it WORKED. I was afraid it'd fall apart after a few hours under the stress, but nope! PERFECT.

The hat I was quite pleased with. positivespace gave me the idea of using plastic cross-stitch webbing for the base. The only problem with my final design is that it hurts like hell after a while because of the pressure it put on my head. The shape of the hat/wig (not sure which it is, really) changes in every panel, so I just went with sort of an amorphous blob. The sproing was a bit of hanger wire and batting, covered with more of my pink spandex. It's held up with a piece of thread.

I've made wings before (see my W.i.t.c.h. costume [which is by the same creative team that did Sky Doll, incidentally]), but not feathered ones. Thankfully these were just little ones. The base was made out of hanger wire, more of the plastic netting, and pink felt. No dedicated harness for these, I cut small holes in the leotard and attached them to the chest rig straps (and taped them to my skin for extra security). I was able to recycle a bit of leftover boa from my HIM costume to decorate the tops of them.

The key itself is soooooo ghetto. Plumbing insulation covered with electrical tape. I love it! My keyhole in the back was made from a closet door handle. It's just held on with magnets attached to the chest rig.

I need to take more pictures of this costume in a better setting. I had Noa's leg wraps, but lost one of them on the walk over to the masquerade. Rather sad. Need to remake it.

My skit: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uUXkuBhRRDk No awards, but I did get positive comments from on of Sky Doll's creators- Barbara Canepa, who also posted it to her blog! I was overwhelmed!
