Description

Unlike all the other costumes so far, this is an idea of my own creation. Basically I got into a conversation with my mom about what an interesting vampire-like costume would be, and we ended up coming up with the idea for this kind of symbolism in regards to a Black Widow spider.

The dress itself is made of shiny black vinyl (admit it: disgusting as it is, black widows are shiny) with a lining and hourglass shape made of luxurious red satin. The shawl is that sheer spider web material they always sell around Halloween (too bad it doesn't show well here). For the nails, I simply took some LONG artificial nails, filed them into points, and painted them before the convention. For the nail polish and lipstick, I used some that was black with a greenish iridescence, since it would compliment the red. Unfortunately, the nails just look black and the lipstick looks brownish, but now you know why I chose to use green eye make-up.

The jewelry I actually bought at BayCon, the first day I was there--I had ordered some dangly red jewelry from a catalogue, but it didn't come in time. This is almost as good, but the other would have been better. Although you can't see it, I'm also wearing a spider ring that I found at a costume shop called Evangeline's about a week before the convention.

I'm also wearing black fishnet stockings and black open-toed shoes, which you can't really see, and my toenails are green, to match the eye make-up, etc.. Also, I'm again wearing those lovely fangs I got for my original Raziel costume.

I intentionally kept this costume simple, since I remained burned out from working on the Raziel costume from the year before for quite awhile. I didn't win any awards, but the workmanship judge was really impressed with the fact that it's made out of vinyl and the stitching looks nice (vinyl is a bitch to work with).
