Description

Not much to say about this one, really. I saw Kill Bill about 2 weeks before BayCon, and I really liked Elle, plus I already bad most of the clothes in my closet, so all I really needed to do was make the eye patch and katana.

I really wanted the eye patch to look like Elle's--hers looked like it was made out of shiny black plastic. Originally I wanted to make it out of a sunglass lens, but I couldn't find any, and didn't really have the means to do that anyway. So I made a base out of cardboard, and covered it with shiny black vinyl, cut a slot on either side of it, and ran a garter through it (didn't have any elastic around that was wide enough, and I was basically doing this the night before we planned to leave for BayCon). Instead of having the band go around my head, I cut it just long enough to stretch across my face and used spirit gum to hold it in place at each end--if you look at Elle, she never has the band going around her head, unless maybe they part her hair just so, so it goes through without showing (something I wouldn't have the time or patience to do).

I also got my hair cut to look more like hers, but I wasn't about to bleach my hair, and I didn't even wanna bother trying to find a blonde wig in time, so I just went as a brunette.

For the original sword, I was hoping to find a decent-looking plastic one, but no dice. Instead, I ended up finding some really crappy toy swords at a dollar store--their handles were too short and the blades looked awful, so I bought two and cannibalized their handles to make one long handle. Then I carefully cut a blade out of foam board, and painted the whole thing as best I could. Not too bad, considering I did almost all of it in one evening.

Unfortunately, the blade got bent--I eventually got tired of it looking floppy and ended up reinforcing that part with Scotch tape =P

I ended up finding a plastic katana in time to get the second pic taken for Halloween, tho.
