Houndoom

Pokémon

This was a quick cosplay that I wasn't really planning on wearing to a convention but I decided to wear it to Youmacon because Mimiru hadn't been finished yet. It is still rough but I didn't intend for it to look amazing, I might redo it later on.

The horns and back stripe things (idk what they're called) are a soft crushvelvet-like fabric from an old pillow, they were stuffed with the pillow stuffing and hand sewn roughly with dental floss (I learned that from some punk friends of mine) because I didn't have a sewing machine or thread when I decided to make this cosplay. The horns were about 4 or 5 inches long (I don't have them with me to measure at the moment) and I had sewn hair clips onto the bottom and held them into my hair that way.

The body was an alteration of a dress I got from my teacher (she was going to give it to goodwill but I asked for it) it is black with a navy blue like tint to it in the light, and made of crush velvet. The dress had a slit going up the back and I cut the dress at the top of the slit and used the leftover fabric to make arm warmers.

I wore my friend's necklace for the neck design on houndoom, it was one of those large metal ball necklaces you find in hottopic.

Under the dress I wore a black fishnet shirt to help with warmth because this was on Halloween, and because it added to the spooky dark Pokémon effect, I guess. I wore a pair of tights I previously had from my dresser, it was black tights with tons of holes torn into them, again to add to the spooky dark Pokémon effect.

At first I had no idea what to do for shoes, at first I was just going to wear my converse and use the leftover fabric from the dress and arm warmers to make legwarmers, but I found a pair of knee high silver boots at Salvation Army for $7 and bought them, and a week or so after I bought them I realized I could use them for houndoom since he has those bands around his ankles. For the bands around his front paws I just took strips of the fabric I used on the horns and back stripes and made bracelets out of them.

The tail was made of galvanized wire covered in black tape, at first it was about 5ft long and it wrapped around my waist under the dress before poking out through a hole that was hidden by the bottom stripe on my back, but you could see the wire under the dress so I cut it and spent about half an hour sewing the duct tape into the dress so it wouldn't fall out or rip out if someone bumped into my tail.

Just as an addition I had an old dog leash that I wear as a belt now and then and decided to wear it as a belt for this cosplay too for the heck of it, I had a little Pikachu keychain attached to it along with my badge for the convention.
