Hazel Grosse
Saiyuki Reload
Last Updated: 11-22-2011
While making this costume, I joked that "Hazel stole from Abel." Although that was one of the reasons I picked this character when deciding to join in the Saiyuki fun with good friends. (I knew I could get this done quickly, and not impact other costume plans too much.)
I opted for the manga as my basis. (and in fact still haven't seen the anime version of Reload.)
I used Abel's cassock and cape pattern as a starting point. Also some other construction techniques mentioned later.
Hazel stole from black twill intended for a future Abel costume.
And he stole a pair of white gloves.
Seems rather deviant for a priest character! Even if he is a polite snarky twerp.
New challenges for this costume were the notch designs in the sleeves and the cape.
I used a trick from Abel for a millinery wire and buckram structure in the sleeve notches.
I'll admit I was surprised the cape held it's shape okay with just a white twill and thinner cotton lining.
For the boots, I made the white 'armor' pieces out of Wonderflex like I made Abel's armor pieces.
Hat made by Inoli worn at ALA 11.
