Final Fantasy IX

I made this costume for my boyfriend. He always gets roped into filling roles in groups, haha, and since he not only loved FFIX but also had the perfect body type for Amarant, we decided he would cosplay him! Not to mention, Amarant is very rarely cosplayed, so we thought it would be neat.
I'm pretty proud of this costume. For the most part, everything came out exactly as I planned, despite doing a lot of new things. The arms could have come out a little better, but again, I had no idea what I as doing, lol. It looked all right.
I made the dreads from roving wool and sewed them all onto a wig cap (also made from scratch). There are 30+ dreads on the wig.
The arm pieces are just that - separate pieces. We wanted to try and be ridiculous with proportions, just like Amarant himself, so we decided to construct arm extensions out of PVC pipe, a grip we glued inside, quilting batting that was wrapped around the pipe to give the arms "muscle", and finally it was all covered with blue stretch lycra. The hands were made from Sculpey and were Gorilla glue'd onto flat PVC end caps and covered with lycra gloves (which I sewed to the arm fabric). The arm fabric ends at the arm belts so that the belts hide the transition between his blue make up'd skin and the fabric.
The Cat's Claws were made of foamboard covered with foil tape, and then painted red on the edges. The rest of it consists of craft foam and wine colored fabric with interfacing, which I sewed on piping, and then painted the wine fabric with gold paint.
The boots consist of stuffed boot covers that cover a plain pair of shoes. I wanted to try and recreate his HUGE and round boots, and I think I succeeded. I wrapped the boot covers with strips of faux leather, which also helped give them their shape.
He wore a chin prosthetic that I attached a goatee to with leftover wool. He also DOES have earrings attached in his wig (my boyfriend's ears aren't pierced), but you can't see them very well, unfortunately.
I think that's all the big stuff. Overall I'm pretty happy with this costume, even though we failed to keep the belts on the arm pieces up (apparently Hollywood tape isn't enough).
For the second wear, I redid/fixed a few things. I sewed back the two dreads that kept hanging down in his face, attached the earrings to the wig so that they would hang lower, completely redid the belt and buckle, and painted the chin prosthetic so that was permanently colored. :)
ACen 2011 was his last wear of this costume. It was just too heavy and uncomfortable, and getting all that body make up on is such a pain. Plus, he can't see in the costume. There are plenty of reasons to retire this costume. It's been worn what, 4 times? So not too bad.
