Aoi

Jihai

Easily the most obscure character I have ever done, Aoi from Jihai; the three-volume manga by Toshimi Nigoshi that almost none have even heard of. Heck, even it's publisher is relatively obscure.
So that's a clear sign that I f*ing LOVE the manga despite it not having too radically new a concept and want to cosplay from it that damn much. (Hell, I THINK I'm the first Jihai cosplayer in existence. Major pride. ^_^) So, I decided on the ravant (see the manga for reference there, I'm not explaining it here) bishie teenaged purple-haired neurotic main character.
The costume consists of;
-Wig; A Scruffy-L in black cherry (Coscom's/Cosworx's old line). Cut shorter, and a bit of styling. It was sooo refreshing to do a SIMPLE wig. And I adore the style. If I could pull off short hair, I'd get that done to my real hair.

-Top jacket thingy; made by cannibalizing two long-sleeved shirts together, cropping, slicing and adding all forms of weird buckles, notions and bias tape. And that weird hood. And all by hand. And one side still ended up uneven.

-Bottom shirt;Made from off-white galaxy twill, using a modified pattern (Burda 7742). I think I made it a bit too curvy, though; it makes me look like I have boobs even where they've been mushed flat. That aside, it's insanely comfy as a tunic-shirt.

-Belts; Put together upholstery vinyl/leather, super-stiff interfacing, other small belts and notions to make the big utility belt and small ones alongside it. Pouches are made of upholstery leatherlook vinyl and interfacing, and sewn together/on by hand. This thing is so awkward in that I have to actually step into it to put it on.

-Pants; a pair of skinny-fit black dress pants that are also a bit stretchy. SUPER comfy and really soft.

-Boots; A pair of grey suede-ish slouch boots from ebay, which had fabric straps added across the insteps. And I would've also added the big cuffs, but I didn't have enough fabric or the chance to get any more (Fabricland sucks. They don't even carry something as simple as GREY SUEDE.)They were wayyy more than I wanted to pay for boots I think are largely hideous, BUT, I had no choice in the matter with boots being out of season when I started looking....sigh.

-Gloves; Made out of armwarmers cropped shorter, with laces added (and the little puckered seam down the center sewn in too), and the straps/buckles also added on. Buckles were from various cannibalized items (the silver ones were from a belt with two small buckles, the brass ones were luggage tags....), and the straps were from the same vinyl fabric as I made the main belt out of.

-Binding top; Same method as my prior one, but I got a new one; the first was starting to lose it's compression ability.

-Ravant tattoo; Made a stencil out of craft foam for it, but it could still use some tweaking. I'm not much good at tattooing, especially when on myself.

When it isn't excessively hot (which it usually is), the outfit is quite comfy and also flashy enough for my cosplay tastes. And as expected, it got many runs. It's quite comfy to travel to the con in.:P And not SO weird (when the top jacket's off) that I get nonstop stares.
