Harley Quinn

Ame-Comi

Batman

Last Updated: 02-24-2011

Harley Quinn is probably one of my all time favorite villains and I simply adored the design the Ame-Comi came up with for her. I loved the mix of details and flare that her original costume lacks. I had to make it!

The suit is 3 pieces. The pants, the leotard and a white under shirt. All pieces were sewn out of a "matte" moleskin spandex (It is a ticker spandex then normal) using an altered bodysuit pattern. The spade design in the back was appliqued on, as well as the circle cut-outs on the pants.

The checker pattern on the gloves and socks was hand done by me to achieve the correct look. The shoes were a great find (on clearance) and I made shoe covers for them, i had sewn bells to the tips but lost a bell so i took them both off. I will add them back in the future.

The collar and wrist ruffles were made out of white pvc for some contrast against the white shirt. The wrist cuffs have foamies inside them to give them some structure.

All of the little joker heads on the ends of the collar and the ends of the hat ears were sculpted out of model magic.

The hat was patterned from scratch. I made a duct tape form of my own head to ensure the correct fit, the seams were placed so that they would match the statue. Foamies and aluminum wire are used to give the ears structure.

The Hag mask on the back of the hat was made out of model magic and paper clay. I used glossy varnish to give the eyes and teeth a "wet" look.

The cupcake (my favorite part) was carved out of Styrofoam. Paper clay was used to create the wrapper. The icing of the cupcake was made out of dry wall Spackle that I colored with acrylic paint (seen here http://ildustbunnyil.livejournal.com/3927.html). It was slathered on just like real icing - the bomb was made out of a Styrofoam ball coated in model magic. Copper wire was used to insure a secure attachment to the cupcake.
