I wasn't originally going to cosplay Light, because I prefer my cosplays to be concenptually interesting or challenging. Otherwise, I will lose interest in the project. But the more I read Death Note, the more I loved it! So I felt compelled to cosplay Light more from my love of the source material.

I was looking around a thrift store when I found a jacket which would work for the character, and this really kicked off the project. I found a way to make the project more challenging by making a plushie Ryuk to go along with it, my first plushie.

I find it interesting how much people seem to love Death Note. At the time I completed this cosplay, Death Note is a manga available only in Japan. In order to read it, people have to locate it online from some not-entirely-legal source, and download a fan-translated version. That's a lot more work than simply turning on your TV set to watch an anime on Cartoon Network. And yet, I had way WAY more people taking my picture as Light than I did as Amon (Witch Hunter Robin), who has been in anime broadcast nationwide. Interesting.
