Madam Red

Artbook Design

Last Updated: 06-20-2010

This was my costume for Anime Vegas' first Masquerade Ball, the Phantomhive Ball!

The dress is made of silk dupioni. I used an old out-of-print pattern for a Victorian dress, but had to modify it considerably. I tried to follow the artbook as closely as possible on the top, but made up my own skirt. I didn't like the huge ruched skirt shown in the artbook and I wanted a bustle if I was going to make a pseudo-Victorian dress!

All of the black pleated trim is handmade, as is the jewelry. Those two things, along with sewing the trim on the hat, took up the bulk of the time making this outfit. The dress itself didn't take me long at all. (I actually made it in less that a week, right before Anime Vegas!) The neat thing about the skirt is that the bustle is detachable by several oversized snaps. It's very convenient since the bustle isn't the easiest thing to sit in.

The wig used to belong to Max. I dyed it red with Dye-Na-Flow. Unfortunately I think I used too much dye and too little water in my dye mixture, and the wig is super stiff and damaged now.

You're probably never going to see many more pictures of this costume because I'm just not that fond of it. Most likely a friend is going to buy it off of me.
