Gaara of the Sand
PreSkip: 1st outfit

This is my very first costume, big thanks to my sister creativecrater <3
Costume: Made in large part by my sister creativecrater. Red wig cut and styled by me. Black crew cut shirt with added fishnet sleeves + elastic. Black sweatpants with added pockets and snaps, hiked up at the bottom. Bandage wraps on both legs and right foot/shoe. Shoes made with duckcloth and flip-flops using tutorial easily found by searching liz.spain naruto shoes on the internet. Brown sash made with faux leather and added buckles. White sash sewn from scratch and hemmed. Bought sand village headband.
Makeup: I made a stencil of the love symbol, taped it to my head, and filled in with kids paint/face paint. I used pencil/marker eyeliner to outline my eyes, then filled them in with black eyeshadow (Revlon if you must know). My eyebrows took some practice. I first did several layers of gluestick. This makes your eyebrows solid and smooth. Then apply white theatre cream makeup for a primer, and let it dry. After a minute or so, apply cream foundation followed by powder foundation to blend in with skin and give a natural look and longer lasting.
Prop(s): Bought small black paper umbrella from thrift store. Did not modify. For the gourd, I started with two sizes of decorative pumpkins that can be bought around halloween or thanksgiving. I painted both with sandy colored acrylic paint (about 3 coats). made a stencil for the tattoos painted with yellow acrylic paint and black sharpies. Cut openings in the top of both with exacto-knife. Hotglued small pumpkin to large one. I used scrap sand colored material rolled up to make rim for opening around cork. Cork made from cutting a styrofoam cone, painted several thick layers of brown acrylic paint. Finally painted cracks on gourd with darker sand color and black on cork. Red scarf tied around the middle. Also added, used scrap sand material to make "sand" come out with cork. Attached with hidden rubber band.
Carrying Gourd: We made a harness so that I could take the gourd on and off in seconds, while still wearing the complete outfit. there is a secret ribbon with velcro underneath the red scarf. Looped around the ribbon is black elastic designed like a backpack with strap across torso. This strap has velcro to take on and off and to tighten. Hidden under the brown and white sashes, relatively comfortable (for me) and very stable. Gourd is very light because pumpkins are hollow and make of durable foam.
