Dissidia: Final Fantasy

Last Updated: 04-23-2012

I'd always loved Zidane, but the original FFIX design seemed a bit plain and simple to me once I'd made a few costumes, so I was thrilled when they released the artwork for Dissidia, they're crazy detailed.

This was definitely my most difficult project to date. Lots of different techniques and materials were used.

The vest is linen, the pants are twill, and the ascot is polyester shantung. The vest was my first time using bias tape, and thanks to Ryuu-Raigeki's tutorials, it came out pretty well. The pants were made from a modified cargo pant pattern, although the pockets were made with a tutorial I found on for better accuracy.

The belts were made from Tandy leather belt blanks, stained/dyed to a golden shade and embossed for the outer ridges/trim, and then various studs, rivets, and buckles were installed.

The shoulder harness is made from leather with a foamies base/structure. I'm not all that happy with it, so it might be re-made for Dragon*Con.

The scabbard is made from heat molded plastic, thick foam for the back side (so that it can mold to my leg and not stick out as much when wearing), sheet brass and aluminum, and pleather. I didn't cast the resin gem, it was commissioned, but the gem setting is totally made from the top of a Powerade bottle! :D

The tail is made from a really nice 3" gold-orange fur from, and shaved down everywhere but the tip to match the Dissidia art. The tail has an armature made from delrin rod so that it bounces when worn!

The necklace is made from Paperclay, painted with acrylics and sealed with Modge Podge. The eyes were large gems from earrings I got at Michaels.

The cuffs are made from the same fabric as the pants, and have a inner structure of two layers of foamies to keep their shape. The gauntlets are made from heat moldable plastic and backed with foamies, they velcro on to the gloves.

I bought the actual gloves, 12 pairs of them in fact because I don't bother to read auction descriptions fully. :P I shall never want for work gloves it seems.
