I've wanted to cosplay Tak for a while for so many reasons (mainly just because she's so badass), but now that Invader Zim has its own convention coming up in March 2011 I HAD to have a costume for it!
I just got a basic turtleneck pattern and butchered a mock up of it. I cut and sewed all the stripes together on the shirt and sleeves. I wasn't paying attention to when I was setting the stripes at first, so it all ended up being too off kilter (and baggy as hell). I've sorta fixed that now, so it's not that noticeable. To keep the seams inside from bunching up or being obnoxious, I used fusible webbing to lay them all flat. On the sleeves, I fused the seams to the gray side rather than laid open because you can see through the pink. The most difficult part of this is that because the seams are now fused, they don't stretch as much as they should, something I didn't take into account, but it seems okay for now. The bottom part of the back I lined in peachskin so it looks more finished and nicer than seeing a bunch of seams. In short, LOTS OF MATH MADE MY HEAD HURT!!! The logo was painted, then slipstitched onto the shirt.
The wig is commissioned from Limebarb, the gun is actually a Star Trek: ToS phaser, and I've got purple contacts which I can see actually see out of! The blue ones I used for Kaya leave a ring of blur around my vision, but these purple ones don't have that. The boots are Demonia brand and got taken to a leather shop to be expanded so I can zip them up all the way. The earrings were bought at Macy's (go figure) and painted to match the rest of the costume. The maekup I sorta took inspiration from film stars like Claudette Colbert: dramatic, feminine, but looks nice on me (and I can actually do on my own).
