Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs
Last Updated: 09-19-2012
I've wanted to Cosplay a Disney Princess since I was a little kid because, like a lot of kids, I grew up adoring all the Disney movies, especially the movies of the 90s like The Little Mermaid, Aladdin and Beauty and the Beast. My favourite Disney Princess is Ariel, but I figured with my pale skin and dark eyes that I could probably be a decent Snow White so I've been dreaming of Cosplaying her for several years. Snow White is a rather adorable princess.
I didn't make this costume. I purchased it from Limebarb as this was her personal costume. I noticed that she was selling it in 2009 and I admired it for a long time before my friend Pan helped convince me that it would be a good idea to buy her costume since Limebarb and I are close in size. Buying her costume saved me a lot of time and money since fabric for this costume alone would probably have been well over $100 and it would have taken a very long time to make and probably would never have been anywhere near as nice as Limebarb's Snow White costume. XD
The costume fit me pretty well. The shoes were a great fit, but I'm slightly bigger than Limebarb by an inch or two around the waist so the corset top was a tight fit and didn't fully close around the back without some discomfort. I'm not sure quite what I'll do about that. I may decide to try to alter the top to enlarge it a bit or I might remake the blue part of the top. It seems a shame to make any major changes to the costume, but I kind of strain the costume when I wear. Thankfully the beautiful cape covers up how squished I am in the back. XD
The only part of the costume that I did make myself was the ribbon, which I quickly whipped up from two types of ribbon. I purchased the Marilyn 250 wig from Cosworx after fretting about finding a wig for a few months thanks to the wonderful suggestion of Oosaji, which I saw on her Cosplay.com page. Pan helped me style it using hot water. The wig was a bit messy the day of, though. I need to tame it with some more hairspray before I wear this costume again.
I fretted for quite a while about the make-up for this costume because Iím no expert at makeup. My attempts at applying fake lashes failed, but I think the make-up worked out fairly well. I was quite impressed by the lipstick that a lovely lady helped me pick out at Shoppers Drug Mart. The brand was Vasanti in a gorgeous red shade called USA. It had great staying power and was a good shade for Snow White.
When I wore this costume to the Cosplay Picnic on Centre Island, Amber and I (Amber surprised me by making a gorgeous Ariel costume), made the day of so many little children! We stopped and posed with lots of children and even adults throughout the day. Apparently the island was abuzz with talk of the princesses walking around. (^^) It was really a very touching day and brought me out of my shell a bit since I'm very shy (especially around kids). Thanks to Limebarb for selling her costume and helping me live a little dream of Cosplaying a Disney Princess.
As of the summer of 2011, I commissioned Ammie to make me a new corset top as the original corset was a little too tight and didn't fit me properly. The new top fits me much better and I look forward to doing a shoot with the updated costume in 2012.
