Code Geass: Lelouch of the Rebellion R2

Well this costume is a whole bunch of firsts for me.

The patterns were drafted with the help of my mother, considering I just don't have four hands, or another pattern to use as a jump off (First time making a pattern). The white/creme is a crepe back satin, it feels really good and has a little stretch to it. It is a bit slippery though. Tulle is fun. I was able to just buy a role of it that is 6 inches wide and 25 yards long. I had to get about two actual yards of that tulle as well. I have white table cloth vinyl that I am going to be using for all of the belts, and some gold belt buckles.

I ended up having to remake most of the outfit, as the polyester satin I first bought just really didn't work for this. Having no stretch and the fabric making the sewing machine angry.. was a little frustrating, so I scrapped it and started over.

Oh, the wings.... yeah. I've never done this before, and not having ever done this before I didn't want to spend a hundred dollars on feathers and have it look like crap. So I'm using white craft foam sheets. I thought it might look too simple or bad when I first thought about it, and then I ironed the sheet, made my stencils, and got to cutting. The more I layered them and placed them out to look like wings... It looks awesome and I plan on using these many times over.

Ive already built the frame for the wings. They are about... 3ft long each. Made of copper tubing that was cut and saudered together. Then I attached chicken wire to it in the pattern I needed with about.... 40 zip ties. And then covered the edges of the chicken wire and the top of the copper pipe with duck tape, just to cover the sharp points in the wire. After that I traced out the wings on white felt, angling the marker out a bit so the cloth was a little larger than the actual wing itself. After that I sandwiched each on the wings in the felt, using a combination of tacky craft glue and hot glue. After all of that was done, and mostly dry I bent the copper tubing even more into the specific shape I needed. The entire process took a whole day. And it is very necessary to have another set of hands to do this.

Hopefully I will finish it at some point.
