Jane Lane is Daria's best friend. Jane is a very artistic person, yet is just as sarcastic as Daria.
Her outfit is one of the more simple ones I've done. I decided to do it a couple of weeks before Dragon*Con. So I went to the thrift store and picked up the shorts, red shirt, and black shirt. I already had the boots and leggings. Finally picked up a black wig to finish things off.
While in costume it took my husband a few seconds to recognize me. This is definitely a permanent addition to the cosplay closet.
When I first decided to do this, I didn't have a lot of time or money to get a wig. So I went over to the costume store to see what wigs they had. I picked up an Ozzy wig and figured I could move the part over and cut it just fine. Well, it doesn't look bad, but that part was really hard to move. I'm figuring I'm going to do a new wig sometime next year. It'll probably be a LeTigre Short in black from Arda Wigs
The original red shirt, I picked up at the thrift store. It was the right shade of red and had 3/4 length sleeves, which meant less sleeve to roll up. Turns out it is a maternity shirt.... So I took in the sides and while I couldn't button it up in front if my life depended on it, Jane never does. Sadly it still fits a little tight. So I'm simply going to use a red dress shirt I have already. I know it fits and it beats buying another one.
The black shirt was another thrift store find. Well, the t-shirt was another thrift store find. It's just a black v-neck t-shirt originally from Old Navy. I bought some white fabric paint and painted the collar. It's a little stiff and stretched out. I'm hoping that washing it will get some of the excess out and it'll shrink back.
The original black shorts were from the same thrift store as the original red shirt. But despite being my size, they are way too small. So I'm either going to see if I have some black shorts that will work or I'll buy some new ones. The black leggings I already had in my wardrobe. A friend of mine is in the National Guard and has been giving me various parts of former uniforms, including jungle boots, that are in great shape. The boots are a little big, but I'm looking into using some foam inside to get them to fit better. They have come in so handy for many cosplays.
This is a fun addition. I love the episode where she's got that glue gun and is constantly wanting to use it. Being a cosplayer, I've realized how important a glue gun is. So I killed two birds with one stone and bought a cordless glue gun. The only problem is it was white. So I bought two paint markers, one black and one yellow, and painted it. I also sealed it to keep the paint from rubbing off. An awesome prop for an awesome gal!
