Repo! The Genetic Opera

First off, I have to say that if you're planning on making any Repo costumes, check out his photobucket page by the costume designer of Repo - it has great reference pictures from the actual costumes worn in the film.

I originally began this costume by making the corset with a pattern I drafted, but it turned out so difficult and ended up breaking on me, so I decided it was best to just begin again with a premade corset and build upon it.

Once I had the basic corset, I started adding on all the details - the straps, the metal studs and the leather undershirt (which was actually made as part of the corset rather than a separate piece like it should have been).

The lace shrug was adapted from a lace shirt I found in a charity shop, cut into the right shape then some more lace trim around the edges.

The skirt was made with suede strips and the D rings and suspender clips added on.

The boots were originally knee high and I adapted them to be thigh high (as I needed a pair of boots with a low enough heel to be realistic to wear all day).

Pants were a standard pair of body shaping knickers. I considered buying the actual sequin pants from Leg Avenue worn in the film, but decided against it because I had issues with the amount of bum it would have made me show!

I covered the bra in rhinestones myself by hand. I used hot glue, but if I were to do it again I would probably use PVA glue as it would mean no stringy bits, and I think less rhinestones falling off while being worn. I should have done the bra at the end, as it was one of the first things I did on this costume and by the time I got to wear it I was actually a completely different bra size and had to make some last minute adjustments.

Wig is a New Look Cleo in colour 1.
