This gown was based on Marie Antoinette's blue striped polonaise in the 2006 movie. It was one of my favourite costumes from that movie, and when I ended up having 10 yards of green dull satin left over from another project, I immediately wanted to make this.
Construction is pretty straight forward. The underskirt is made to fit over my wider panniers, with a large ruffle at the hem. The gown itself consists of the bodice and overskirt. The bodice is interlined with canvas and closes down the centre front by the means of large snaps that are hidden by the front panel. All the ruffles and ruching, with exception of the underskirt ruffle, are pinked.
Unfortunately, since I first made the dress, I've lost about 20 pounds, so it doesn't fit quite right anymore. I do plan to fix that, though. ^^
