green archery dress

The Chronicles of Narnia: The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe

As soon as I saw this costume I fell in love with it. Susan is my favorite character from Narnia and this dress is just amazing. The main dress is a forest green corderoy type of material. The typical corderoy strips are very hard to see unless you look closely for them. It is a bit heavy but no more than denim. It is actually quite comfortable and not very hot either. The linning is a mint green satin which is reversed, meaning the shinny part is next to the wrong side of the fabric so the shine shows through the cut outs on the arms. It is a full shirt which I hope to sew to the dress when I have time. LOL I also need to make the back closure a little better. It's supposed to be laced like corset strings and I hope to have it finished some time. (I do not plan on retiring this anytime soon, 'cause I have too much fun in it ;) ) The neck line and edge of the sleeves are hand embroidered to match the designs in the movie. I hope to have some better pics soon. I may wear it to my next con or have my friend do a mini photoshoot with me.

I styled the wig myself by pulling the hair to the side, to look like side part bangs, and braiding the hair in the typical midevil style peasent look. The moss and flowers were purchased from a craft store. The moss I wove into the hair and the flowers were hot glued to the moss. The flowers are only shown for maybe one or two scenes, but I liked the look better than just having moss in her hair.

The shoes I found at a thrift store and are 90% acurate. After looking for months they are the best I could find. I love them. They are so comfy. :D

The wepons were a labor of love. The quiver is craft foam I covered in paper mache'. I layered it several times, then used an exacto knife to carve out the details like the S.P. I have taken better pics of them, but sadly lost them so, I hope to get better ones soon. The arrows are woden dowels spray painted dark brown. I notched the ends by way of an exacto knife and patience. The fletching is simple red craft feathers that were glued on with nail glue. I used gold floss to wrap the feathers and give them more stability. Sadly I realized AFTER I had gone to all this work, there were supossed to be three not two feathers on each arrow. *sigh* The arrow head is made from sculpy and each one is hand molded and carved. If you look closely at the reference pics there is a minature face of Aslan carved into them. I carved each face seperatly and no two are alike. They were glued onto the shaft of the arrow by way of nail glue. (awsome stuff!) I made 7 arrows for two reasons. 1. I didn't have time or patience to make more when I first made them and 2. I took a cue from the Christian undertones in the movie and used the perfect number or God's number which is 7. The bow was an amazing find. I found it in a Halloween store as a Legolas bow and arrow set. The arrows never came in so they gave me the bow half off. It was originally brown so all I had to do was paint the ends off white. The middle of the bow is covered in a peice of reddish brown stretch pleather. I drew the same image of Aslan from the arrow heads onto the pleather with a sharpie. (plan on painting it on at some point so it won't rub off) I found a gold metal tape which I used to trim the pleather in and also used it for the gold vines which wrap around the bow. The string was black and rather than re-string it, I just used gold and red floss and wrapped the string in it. The middle part of the string is red while the ends are gold. I never could figure out how to make her horn, so I bought a replica one online. ;)

The belt for the quiver was found at Walmart. The belt buckle was 99% accurate so, I bought three. One for the quiver, one for her waist and one for the horn. The belt for the quiver I painted red and used a leather knife to carve the floral disigns into it. I plan on painting them black to highlight them. The belt for her waist was left brown and un-altered. I havn't decided if I will attatch the horn or not due to the slightly fragile nature of it. I would hate if something broke loose causing it to fall to the floor and break.

All in all it is a fun cosplay and I doubt I will retire it anytime soon. :D
