Sailor Venus

Sailor Moon disguise

Sailor Moon S

Last Updated: 10-22-2010

This is from the episode where Usagi's pure heart is nearly stolen, her identity is in jepordy and Minako (Sailor Venus) has to step in and use the Luna Pen to keep Sailor Moon's true identity a secret. Some places have dubbed her Mina Moon in this guise. I have to say I absolutly loved this when I saw the episode and even though it is only used once I had to make it as my second Sailor scout outfit. The outfit looks almost identical to Moon's with a couple exceptions. She keeps her same tiara, and choker. The bow in back is orange instead of red and the tops of the boots are orange not white. Also the hair is different. Basicaly it's Minako's hair pulled up into Moons style. Most people thought I was Sailor Moon so, the disguise worked. ;)

The hair is not quite the same but after fighting with my wig I decided it wasn't worth it and just used my own hair. I got pretty close as she's suposed to have large pony tails that curve away from the top of her head in a heart shaped manner. The bottom it supposed to end in what looks like balls of yarn, but I couldn't exactly make that work out. The odangos I made using two differnt white buttons. I painted the middle ones red. I ran out of time to glue them together and make a barrette like attatchment so, I used blue painters tape to put the two buttons together. One a whim I put blue painters tape on the back of the completed odangos and stuck them to my hair. I was not only surprised they stuck, but they stayed like that ALL DAY!!!!! I practically had to rip them off my hair when I whent to bed that night. The tiara was purchased and is the same one I used for my Sailor Venus. I didn't have time to make the half moon earrings she wears but I will definetly have them the next time I cosplay her.

The choker is orange satin I had left over from the bow. The Heart was a white button I had left over and painted it yellow. I used a darker orange than Venus's orange 'cause the pics I had made it look a bit darker.

The collar is blue satin with three white ribbon stripes sewn on. It has snaps to attatch it together. I learned with my Venus cosplay that it needs to be slightly removable. The bow is red satin and is partialy sewn to the collar. There are a couple of snaps to attatch it to the collar on one side so, I can get it off and on. The broach is made out of Scuply and attatched to two pins to keep it on the bow. I made it kinda like a keep sake box so it would be hollow inside. I ended up using a silicon cupcake mold to get the shape and sanded it round. Took a long time and lots of patience. I made the back of the broach in a similar fashion then used sculpy to add the trim and half moon details. I glued the two halves together, after painting them, and I am very pleased with the results.

The base is a white leotard I added a seam around the bustline to. I sewed the three rolls on the shoulders individualy then put them together and attatched them to the leotard. The waist roll is annoying to say the least. I thought I had gotten it tappered only to find out this was not the case. This I will definetly tweek. The skirt didn't give us quite the problems my Venus one did, but I am no where near ready to say I have mastered pleats. The bow in back (which sadly I did not get a pic of) is the same dark orange satin as the choker.

The gloves were purchsed and the red rolls were sewn individualy then sewn on the tops of them. Aparently I can't messure my own arm and made them just a bit too small. I had to add a peice to make it larger.

The boots I also purchased because I was not going to try and hope I could get halfway decent ones. I used orange satin to hide the white trim. I got them just like Sailor Moon's 'cause I figured I could use them for a couple different cosplays that way.

Artimis I made. My first foray into plushie making. He is patterned from three different stuffed animal patterns as no one had a cat pattern I liked. He is a bit large, but was a huge hit at the con. I hand embroidered his face and sewed on the cresent moon. He's so cool and sits on my couch so the whole world can see him. :D

Although no one recognized me I had fun in this. A few thought it strange "Sailor Moon" had Artimis, but most were just thrilled with him. I tried to have a little fun with the Sailor Moons there by testing their knowledge of the anime. I would usually walked up to them and state that I was the REAL Sailor Moon or would try and bring it up when someone wanted photos together. Most of them just gave me weird looks like I was completely crazy. Maybe I should make a "Love Me Chain" for the next time I wear this. I should also practice my "Sailor Kick". ;)
