Briar Rose

Sleeping Beauty

Last Updated: 10-28-2010

This is my first ever Sleeping Beauty costume and as this is my favorite Disney movie you can expect to see more. Sadly I have not been able to locate the pics I took when I first wore this at Starfest. However, I decided it needed to breath again so, I brought it out for Mile Hi Con this past weekend.

I originaly wore this for work (back when they weren't as cautious with their characters being played by amatures). It is something simple I whipped up from the thrift store. I need to tweek it in a few places, but over all it looks good.

The headband is just a peice of gray fabric I found and should probably replace with black at some point. The hair is my own and aside from lightening my dark roots, completly natural. Sadly my hair starts out dirty blonde at my roots and hits honey blonde around my ears. Weird like me I guess. I am still trying to make her bangs look right, but they say practice makes perfect. :)

The shirt I safety pinned together and I plan on sewing it at some point. I may also figure out a way to dye everything but the collar gray. It came with 3/4 sleeves but I roll them twice so they look like her sleeves.

The corset was the first one mom and I ever made. We still need to make a slight adjustment to the strings, but for the most part I love it. We didn't put any bonning in it because we didn't feel it was needed.

The skirt is a gray silk that I absolutly love. The way it flows is so perfect for Rose. I pulled the hem up in a couple of places making it uneven. I added one of mom's petticoats underneath for an added detail. I wanted to have the petticoat show so that's why I made the hem like I did. A fun little tweek which I think adds to it.

The basket was the best I could find at the time and I am still on the hunt for the perfect one. I added greenery and a few cherries and strawberries. I need to add a little more to make it look more full.

The three fairies I purchased at my store and thought they would be a good touch for this con. I usually pin the pins I have of them on the collar. It's not an easily recognizable costume and those who do recognize me love the additions.

I have yet to make her shawl and will have that on my list of things to do for this spring as I am bringing her to Starfest in April.

It's nice to have a character who I look almost identical to, and love, to cosplay. To bad I'm too tall to play her at the parks. (5'6" exactly, without shoes, and you have to be that tall with heels. oh well)
