The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King

Last Updated: 10-29-2010

This is my first Lord of the Rings costume I have made and I love it. I still need to finish it, but hope to soon.

The wig I found at a halloween store and was actually licensed as an Arwen wig. I used a couple of bobby pins to keep it out of my eyes.

The dress is made of midnight blue, stretch velvet. It was an amazing find! The sleeves are red velevet. I found several pictures which showed the sleeves more redish orange than red, but after consulting the movie I decided red was the correct color. The paisly part of the sleeves and collar were extreamly annoying to track down. I honestly can't even remember where I ended up finding it. It was either Hannkock Fabrics or Joann's. It took me about three or four months to find I believe. I had everyone helping me look too. One person said she had gotten hers from India and it was not cheep. It also took me a little bit to find a lace pattern I was satisfied would work for the sleeves and collar. I have yet to put the lace on the collar. I painted the lace silver as I could only find it in white. For shoes I just used a pair of lace up, black sued boots, mid calf length. The dress is floor length so it doesn't really matter what I wear underneath, but I figured this would look elvish enough. ;)

Overall, I love this costume and feel just like Arwen when I wear it. It's really not as hot as one would think as the sleeves help to create enough air flow to cool you down.
