Dissidia: Final Fantasy

Why this character? I wanted a challenge and a character that was outside of my comfort zone. I've always been curious about CoD but couldn't really appreciate the character until Dissida was released. So I wanted to tackle this costume as a means of trying to understand the power behind CoD.

The construction of the body was rather simple. I built it like a swimsuit with boyshort trunks. It was easier to grasp how and where to put fabric when thinking of it like a swimsuit.

Of course some alterations to the design were necessary to make this costume convention appropriate (i.e. to not be asked to cover up and/or change). The thong turned into boy-shorts (5 redesigns later after checking with an acquaintance who chairs a large convention) and the red cover-up on the left chest area. I really strived to try and keep the intent of CoD. The back and sides match 100% with CoD (based off of Dissidia). I think the changes I have made would be something that CoD would wear. It's just a tad bit covered up in necessary areas. If I went for a thong and pasty, I would never leave the house and there would be no photos of this costume. lol Apologies that it's not 100% Ecchi, but let's be honest. You wouldn't be allowed to step outside without getting ticketed for indecency if you went for full accuracy on this costume.

Gloves are stretch dance fabric with a black arm and red glove sewn together. The glove was then painted with Jacquard to fade from the black to the red. After that, I stitched in some purple fabric that I had dyed (cotton) from a previous costume and cut holes out to allow the purple to show through.

The two tentacle buddies, lovingly named Om and Nom, are papermache and jewelers clay (to soften out any rough edges).

Wig construction...basically took jewelers wire, stuck them into a foam/cloth headband that I made. Attached it to the interior of the wig and started going glue/gel crazy with the hair to attach to the wire. And the results were much better then anticipated. The great thing is that these are really easy to bend and curl however I wish without falling apart.

Update: Added white trim to gloves. Added yellow "tentacles" to bodice. Painted white on the cape. Boy-shorts went through 6th redesign.

Total cost: $79.73
