This baby is complete and debuted at Otakon 2011

I love that there are others out there who wanna be tentaspy cosplayers too! But If you use my design / construction method posted here on how to make this, PLEASE do the right thing and give credit (just a name drop will do, a link is even better) / don't take credit for the design / construction method yourself. Thank you!

...

Doing this inspired by a cosplayer from Anime North I saw online (Katzerin). I was thinking of doing the costume and she made me believe it was possible. Though wearing it all year in the public eye (she only wore her's once) mine's become the 'standard' as it were, or the 'first' to many! But I like to be sure I give her credit.

I went for my OC's design of course, with even more detail and more 'monster' with included fangs and webbed hands with frills. I also went to the trouble of cutting out 320 suckers (of gradually decreasing circumference) out of 1/2" high density foam. I used a band saw for that, it was the fastest/most clean way. With help from a friend I also managed to cut out all the centers so they LOOK like suckers. A little airbrushing on the centers brought out the texture too.

The tentacles are made with mildly shiny swimsuit spandex. My legs are in two of them, but with right posing my legs pretty much vanish into the mess of tentacles. The trick is to not have them stuffed too much at the tops, so they taper, but you also gotta sew them in the round onto the body, so when lifted they don't look flat. It's tricky to explain. Also I made the tentacles the same size as my legs so they are all the same thickness, so they blend in better.

They are stuffed with tulle ('ballerina tutu material'), About 100 yards of it (I got it with coupons at Joanns getting cheapest possible, still spent about $50 on it all). I filled out space in the biggest parts with bits of styrofoam. I did this to make the tentacles waterproof, and light / bouncy. There is wire in the last 1/3 so they have life to them and are poseable. The wire is embedded in the middle so it looks even.

I had to hand sew the tentacles onto the 'tentacle pants' main part (used button thread), but the rest is machine sewn. I had the whole thing on a duct tape dummy to have it stretched right, it wasn't easy pinning and sewing them evenly, but I managed! I used a pair of jeans shorts under as a base at the top, to give a non-stretch strength to the tentacles. This also gave more of a bite to the white suspenders I wore under my vest to help hold up everything (tho they could stay on without it) It was quite an undertaking, and I made the whole thing in about 3 weeks.

The webbed gloves are made with skin colored swimsuit material, and are airbrushed. I made flexi-sculpey claws for them too.

I also made the mask and vest from scratch.

Make-up and Scarecrow fangs added that last touch. :)
