Aurora

Sleeping Beauty

After who knows how many years I am finally getting my dream cosplay. As true to my nature I am kicking this up a notch and doing the be-jeweled version of her princess dress.

I am one of the blue dress purists who will never make a pink version of this dress. Did I mention Merryweather is my fav fairy. ;) LOL

I am very pleased with my progress so far and this is my first solo project. My mom and I did not tag team like we usually do. This is all me. (I finally found the motivation to learn how to do this on my own and mom is suppervising as well as giving tips) I also modified this from a childs pattern as I could not find one I liked in adults nor had the ability to draft a pattern from scratch.

I have completed the circle skirt of doom. LOL I just need to hem it and complete the rest of the dress.

The bodice was made using the same pattern I used for my Dragon Wine Lady. I tweeked it to keep Aurora's signiture bodice lines. (three lines in front) I also shortened it a little. I added jewels along the front seams of the bodice. Two shades of blue, capri for the side seams and alternating capri and aqua for the center seam.

The collar has a small amount of wire in the ends to give it shape. I added aqua colored, flat backed jewels in a swirl pattern to it. I chose a swirl pattern to reflect the fairy's magic. It's attatched to the bodice and sleeves and I put interfacing in it to give it stiffness.

The sleeves are tappered at the ends to look more like Aurora's fitted sleeves. I felt it was important to add that detail and I didn't like the idea of making them seem more flared then they were. They ended up a little short so, I added a brocade style ribbon to the end. This way I didn't have to hem them and I was able to give them a little something more. :)

The pepllum was a bit of a monster to deal with. I ended up making it work, but getting it onto the dress and the dress together was not fun. Mom ended up taking over for me and hand sewing the skirt, pepllum and bodice together. It still took her several tries to get it right. I'm kinda glad she did this part. ;) I hung multi-colored crystals to the long part of the points and used them to sew the pepllum points to the dress. It helped everything lay flatter/hang right. I have smaller crystals I will sew to the inverted points on the pepllum at some point. I have yet to decide if I want to do any details on the waist.

My crown is done and is the fancier version seen in Maleficents vision to Philip in his cell. It has four rubies, pearls, and some black filigry painting. It's really pretty and I'm glad my first crown turned out so good. :)

I still have more details to add to this as well as a zipper. I'm hoping to get it done soon as I want a photoshoot when the roses start blooming.

You can view my gallary for reference pics. :)
