Nina Sayers/Black Swan
Odile Performance Costume
Last Updated: 03-26-2011
When I saw Black Swan in theaters, I fell in love. I knew I wanted to cosplay her, but at first I couldn't decide which version to do, Black or White. Eventually I decided on Odile, the Black Swan, because it's more recognizable and I like to go with darker characters nowadays since everyone pictures me in princess costumes.
Sadly most of this is bought because of the nature of the costume, but it is all heavily altered and accented. I bought the tulle tutu online from a dance shop and made an overskirt out of heavy bridal satin in black that I had lying around. The top is a pre-made satin dance leotard that I altered with multiple layers of lacing and feathers on the top. I bought pointe shoes but since they were so uncomfortable and tight, I hardly wore them and wore my plain flat ballet slippers to walk around the con.
The crown is made from metal wiring, wonderflex and airdry clay that is actually heavy, not the foamy stuff. I made a back hair-clip out of foamy clay so a simple alligator clip would hold it up. The hairstyle was easy, I used my own hair and twisted one of those Goody bun-holder things into it to make it stay.
