I love Toph! She is me! 8D Though I am fortunately not blind. Her personality is 90% like me O_O;
The costume was made from cotton and silk. I found a really nice shade of red that was alittle brighter than the cartoon but it matched my skin tone alittle better so I decided to go for that. This was the first costume where I used a pattern!
I am pretty bad at Maths and I was scared I wouldn't understand that side of it. At some points I didn't, but I just played around with the fabric and I found a way through it :)
The trousers are a pj bottoms pattern and the top is a pj top pattern without the straps. There is a zip added at the back. My first ever zip!! It could be neater, but meh... it was my first go :) not too shabby!
The trousers have an elasticated waste and are quite baggy which is very comfy! I wish I has made them abit more flared like Toph's but they still work good.
I will probably re-make them if the fabric shop still has the same fabric.
The panels were abit annoying. I couldn't find the right sized ribbon or bias tape. I didn't want to use fabric because I was afraid it would look heavy and bulky. In the end I found a pretty decent sized ribbon and sewn them. I still need to add a fire nation button to the back to join them up.
The waist wrap-thing... I thought I had enough fabric to wrap around me in the way Toph wears it, but I didn't XD I had no more time to get fabric though so it was okay. Kept falling off but I'll remake it so that won't happen.
Shoes were bought and I tried to add the triangle point with foam, but it didn't work out XD Will try others ways for the rewear of this costume, though :)
The headpiece is made from mount board, brass paint, tossels and a hot glue gun. The front decoration is made from a hot glue gun and painted over and the tossels added. There are pieces of velcro on either side of the headpiece and the wig so it was securely.
The wig is two wigs sewn together. One stuffed and sewn onto the back, I accidently made the wig abit smaller but it fitted onto my head really well and didn't need pins to hold up with the weight, so it's all good! :)
