Description
My inspiration for this design was based off of the season of fall. I focused primarily on the elements of this season which are symbolic to fall such as the color. Aside from color I incorporated certain aspects of nature within the design such as trees, leaves, and pedals. The wig is symbolic to the head of a tree in which I dreaded the wig and used paper to sculpt all of the branches. Inside the paper sculpted branches and dreads I inserted wire for support and movement. Then I added a few fall-colored leaves. The basic structure of the costume consists of a skirt and a tie-up shirt which was both hand-patterned.
Favorite Aspect: My favorite aspect of this costume is the wig. Everything went right while I was constructing it, and I really love the turn out. The concept of the wig was based around a tree in the fall. I wanted to leave the branches somewhat sparse so it looked like a fall tree. Also, what's great about this wig is that I can change the placement of the branches by simply bending them.
Least Favorite Aspect: None
Easiest Task: The easiest task was constructing the garments. The top and skirt were both incredibly simple to hand pattern and create. I also enjoyed embellishing the top with gold sequins and gold sparkles.
Hardest Task: The hardest task was gluing gold sequins around the rims of my shoes. Not only did I have to apply the sequins one by one, but I had to apply them effectively so when I walked I wouldn't lose any sequins.
