Since I'm such a big fan of the Alien films, I decided to make my own Colonial Marine costume. One note, I'm aware that there are websites that make Colonial marine armor but I decided to make my own since I didn't want to pay $500 and wait nearly a year for it to come in the mail.
About the costume. I made the armor from blue camping foam from Wal-mart, some velcro straps and zip ties. I also had to use some paintball padding as a template for the armor
The shin guards are baseball shinguards from Dicks sporting goods. I just had to cut off a piece of padding that was above the knee pad and I spraypainted it a standard military green.
The clothing I'm wearing underneath- Under the armor, I'm wearing a military green tanktop. For pants, I'm wearing military green cargo pants
The headset it a PS2 headset with a (broken) airsoft tactical light hotglued to one side that can be used either as a mock headcam or headlight
The weapons/props that go with this costume is the M41-A Pulse rifle, the M56 Smartgun and theMotion tracker. The pulse rifle is a resin model kit I got over ebay for $100
The Smartgun originally was a big water cannon I found at Gabriel bros a couple years ago. I liked the look of it then, so I bought it, spraypainted it and left it as it was for a while. When I started making the costume, I thought it would make a convincing Smartgun, so I did some work with it and it turned out really well. The front braces were made from spraypainted wooden dowel rods that were hot glued together and hot glued to the gun. The barrel was made from a PVC pipe, which was spraypainted grey and hot glued to the barrel of the gun
The Motion tracker I made from a Sony Handycam. There's a couple of videos on youtube that have the motion tracker sound effect and display graphics. So with the help of Windows movie maker and Realplayer, I was able to record the sound effect and display graphics onto a video tape, so when you play the tape back on the Handycam, it makes a pretty decent Motion tracker
