I have decided to tackle another Umi cosplay. I really liked her Other Worlds costume from the second season. It will also give me an excuse to finish the sword I started for my first Umi cosplay.
The wig was an amazing find from Arda Wigs. :D It's a light perriwinkle and while it does looked washed out now and then, most of the time it is perfect. I cut bangs and may still end up tweeking them.
The top is made of Royal blue satin and linned with a posh linning of the same color. The neckline had to be gathered to keep the top decent and bring it colser to my skin. The trim is two peices of gold trim hand sewn together with a beaded trim on the bottom of the sleeves and hem line.
The skirt is a flowy white material, I totaly forgot the name of, which is gathered at the waist line. The gathers don't show very well and may be tweeked in the near future. I hemmed it to look like a wrap around skirt. The yolk was made of black satin and trimed in the same gold trim. The blue tassle thing is made from the same material as the top and is also trimed in gold with the beaded fringe added at the bottom.
The shoes were white flats I found at Walmart and painted to match the blue fo the costume. I used a dye pen to make the white trim on the shoes blue as well.
The headband is a left over of the linning I used for the top. It had such a great flow to it, I had to make it the headband.
The bracelets and anklets are two strips of gold ribbon sewn together with beaded trim on the anklets.
The gold earrings were purchased at Walmart also.
The head jewel is a chain with a bead attatched to it. The necklace was also done in a similar way. I salvaged beads from the left over frong for these peices.
The sword is a single peice of pine I cut out with a hand saw and carved with sanding blocks, cardbord nail files, and a Dremel tool. It took aver 100 hours to make this. I taped it off in various places and used spray paint to paint it with. The beads and "eyes" are left overs I found laying around.
Overall, I had a lot of fun in this costume and couldn't get over how mech everyone at the con loved it. Even though I didn't win at the cotume contest, two of the three judges continued to gush over my costume after the con was over.
