Zelda: Twilight Princess

Last Updated: 09-27-2011

For CONvergence this year, I decided to dress up for the first time ever in my five years of attendance. I've always been drawn to Midna as a character, even though I'm not a die hard Zelda fan. My construction of this costume is vastly based on the methods used by Aleze on this site, but I made use of a number of other tactics/materials as well.

Now That It's Over:
Walking as Midna for two days couldn't have gone better. People *loved* the costume. I got a lot of photos taken, and a number of hugs that I didn't really want. It was incredible, and very positive. I annoyed my friends because we couldn't walk 10 steps without someone stopping me for a picture or questions.

And now I will never put myself through any of this again.

I've never cosplayed before, and I was in over my head with this costume. 6 months of work almost culminated in me having a breakdown/giving up when something catastrophic happened just days before the convention. It was then, as I sat crumpled over in bed, crying, that I realized I wasn't having fun anymore.

Don't get me wrong, a LOT of this costume was fun. The Fused Shadow in particular, is my opus as an art student. I don't know whether to keep it in a glass case forever or to sell it, because I... can't bring myself to do this costume again. Why? Because the zipper on the suit is faulty, and I am NOT ever painting a lycra suit again. Not ever.

I am exceedingly proud of the fact that I stuck with this for six months, and it came out great. But now I know what it's like to be an attention-getter at a convention. And I think I'm content to say that I'm okay with just being part of the crowd.
