Grell Sutcliff

Ciel in Wonderland

Kuroshitsuji (Black Butler)

Last Updated: 08-09-2011

So our group decided to do a Kuroshitsuji theme and I was originally going to be Reaper Grell. Well at some point another person decided that's who they wanted so I started looking for a variant. Then I watched the Ciel in Wonderland OVA and fell in love.

This was a lot of fun... even with the three inch heels. I did take some liberties such as the brocade print on the waistcoat, I felt all the solid colors were a little dull.

The breakdown:
Glasses: I got a pair of flexible red glaases off ebay which are perfect for cosplay. I then cut some plastic from various packages to make the lenses. I then went to Hobby Lobby and got two sizes of jewelers beads, some hemp string, jump rings and the things to attach stuff to glasses. I ordered some skull beads from etsy and spray-painted them silver and then set out to construct the glasses chain.
Waistcoat: I used McCalls 4321, with a standard vest I cut out the back to accomplish the correct waistcoat style. I had to extend the collar to go all the way around my neck and also make the bottom parts longer.
Dress shirt: Should be easy right? Just buy one and modify if needed. No Grell's has super long sleeves and the only way for me to get that look would have been to buy an XXXXL shirt or something. So I made mine, using Simplicity 4760. The most confusing part was cuffs and getting all the raw edges finished. It was easy to modify the collar because I've done it before.
Pants: I bought some pinstripe dress pants, took them in and shortened them to the capri length.
Shoes: I ordered the heels off and then used Fabri-Tac to glue on the pink feather boa.
Accessories: I got the socks from, I ordered 3 pairs so I could match the ears and tail with everything else since I couldn't find matching fabric. The scarf I crocheted myself, this was my first time doing that. I got the gloves off ebay. I made the bow tie myself as well which was quite a chore, the pattern was included in the vest pattern.

This cosplay was so much fun and I was so happy I managed to get two of my friends in on the Wonderland outfits. We were some of the only people doing those versions.
