June 25 2011:

Currently being made to go along with my Saturn, Neptune, and Uranus for AX 2011!

July 11 2011:

So this whole thing started as a joke as AX 2010 came to an end. Of course, my group grew up watching Sailormoon and we all agreed we had to do it eventually. We thought it would hilarious to dress up Kokoro-h's boyfriend as Uranus and that brings us to this point.

Alrighty, construction!

So the day before AX 2011, me and EhpikPhale (Saturn) pretty much set up a Sailor Scout assembly line. She did most of the cutting and measuring according to my directions and I did almost all of the sewing to produce three senshi uniforms in about twenty hours. We did not sleep.

The white stripe for my boots is actually duct tape that I shaped around the top edge of each boot the night we got into the hotel. Ghetto-tastic.

I'm in love with my Time Key. This was my first major prop and I'm proud of how it turned out!
I started by making the heart and other details for the staff head. For the bigger heart, I used a small foam, floral heart shape and covered it with paperclay for durablilty. The smaller heart started as a heart shaped boxed lid that I cut the top out of and covered with paperclay. Both of these were sealed with mod podge.
All of the golden balls are wood painted gold with about six layers of acrylics.
The Garnet Orb is a larger wooden ball that I painted with acrylics again. The first two(?) coats were a basic red, followed by two coats of a metallic red, followed by about five coats of a red glitter paint and sealed with mod modge.
The shaft is a five foot PVC pipe. The balls were just foam balls that I carved a hot through and hot glued into place. I hot glued a ring of craft foam on either side of the balls as an added detail.
The bottom detail on the staff is a carved wooden chess piece like shape that I sanded down to fit the PVC pipe and attached with gorilla glue.
The key edges were drawn out by Kokoro-h for me and cut from thick poster board. I taped the edges with painters tape to give them a more finished look, then sealed each piece with several layers of mod podge. These were attached to the shaft through a system of drilled holes, nails, and epoxy.
The staff head sits on a paperclay covered floral foam cone and was attached with epoxy. The ridged detail around the base is made from individually cut pieces of craft foam hot glued to the cone.
Once everything was attached together, I spray painted the whole thing with metallic silver paint finished with a clear protectived coat.
The garnet orb and smaller golden balls were attached with more epoxy.

All of our tiaras and brooches were ordered from the wonderful Catzia! I cannot thank her enough.

If anyone has any questions, feel free to leave me a message! I'd love to help anyone who needs it (:
