Himawari Kunogi (butterfly dress)
Last Updated: 07-30-2012
Originally I planned making the sunflower gown, eventually after 3 reasons, this project was put away (even if I bought almost everything for it - that will be used for another cosplay)
For Japan Expo I wanted something light, easy, comfy and yet female to wear. Later on this little Asian inspired version caught my attention so it was decided! :)
My lovely Himawari-chan was at Japan Expo in the company of a fantastic Yuuko (my German DA friend) Artflower.
The swirly skirt : based on a magazine pattern and altered.
Butterflies: plastic base, covered with fabric and heat 'n' bond and stitched. Silver metal parts were gold metallic painted, some gold existing pearls were used and my own homemade tassels. Those little "fan" parts were made from plastic, also painted, then cut-out and combined with glued on black jet Swarovski fix on pearls and other pieces.
Asian styled dress: white bust part based on a top pattern, the skirt was based on the same pattern I used for the red skirt and then altered. The red butterfly fabric was stitched over and the pink lines were put on place with heat'n'bond. That last was supposedly not stitch able and more firm but it will be altered. Due to the not very satisfying outcome after running around with it for 1 day. >_<"
Gloves: a combination of the different fabrics, left over gold lame fabric, heat'n'bond and 2 zippers. :)
Socks: left over fabric of the red/black/brown unknown fabric, zippers and elastics. But as it not seemed good while wearing them Saturday morning, they were left in the hotel.
Costs: ~70 euro (including wig)
