Princess Serenity! I made a Princess Serenity cosplay back in 2007, but wasn't too happy with the way it came out so I remade earlier this year and it is now what you see today. The whole process was a huge pain in the butt (especially crafting that wig...)
I created a princess seam pattern for the bodice and it is fully lined, underlined, and boned. White glitter casa satin (from Joann's) was used for the outer layer. I created a stencil (after much trial and error) for the "moon rings" to get them to look as round and uniform as possible. They are made out of white pleather and the same satin as the bodice, stitched to the dress with a zig-zag stitch, and outlined in plastic ivory pearls to make them stand out among the vast whiteness of the dress. The gold and white pearls are all glass beads to give it a more realistic look overall. The white bands are three rows of braided rope trim and the circle dealie... things beneath it (as seen in the artwork) is textured lace. I did it this way because I felt it looked close to the pictures in the manga and artbook works.
The skirts of the dress are 8 yards of matching casa chiffon and casa crepe and are roll hemmed. This was the first time I've used chiffon as a main fabric in a cosplay and it was a gigantic pain!!! It frays *a lot* worse than satin!! (Really, all the fabric I worked with frays like a monster, but I serged all of it because of that). Top layer is chiffon and the bottom layer is crepe to give it that flowy somewhat transparent look.
The cape is made out of beaded glitter casa organza and plastic pearls. The bow is also made out of the same organza plus plain white organza for the tails. Bow detaches to make the whole thing a lot easier to put on. And of course, after all this, the dress is *way* too heavy to stand up on its own so I have sewn clear bra straps into the bodice.
The sleeves... ick. I ran out of time before the convention to make a proper pair, so what you see in the pictures are the old sleeves from my first Serenity gown. I DO plan on making a proper pair out of craft foam and Wonderflex, though.
The wig was a nice big nightmare. At first, I bought a wig from the seller Ayanamisatoru, but it was *way* too small on my head and way too heavy. That was a no go. Because of this, I sold it and bought a back-parted white wig on eBay, three packs of matching extensions, and two of my friend's styrofoam balls and made my own. Huge pain in the butt this was, but I felt it was worth it in the end and I'm proud of it. The pearl hair barrettes were made from bobby pins painted with white nail polish and 6 glass pearls glued onto it. The tiara was bought online.
Shoes are from my SeeD ball Rinoa cosplay and felt they'd work here. Silver crystal was bought on eBay.
Forehead moon charm is a crescent moon cabochon I found and painted gold.
...Totally forgot to wear my ring for this. D'oh! And my bracelet broke shortly before I left my hotel room. I'll make a new one one of these days!
