I'm passionate about drawing attention to the more underrated players in the Final Fantasy series, and this costume pays homage to two overlooked figures: the game Final Fantasy IX and its NPC character, Ruby. As a dancer, I've always had an affinity for Ruby, FF9's dancer/actress/barmaid member of the Tantalus Theatre Troupe. So when I was looking to add an FF9 character to this year's cosplay plans, Ruby just seemed perfect.
I set out to design a version based on the Amano Artwork of Ruby and her Tantalus castmates. This costume is fun to wear, although it has its drawbacks. The skirt can get a bit out of control, and it's difficult to see out beneath the wig and bow. Finally, my pointe shoes weren't meant to be walked around much in, so I can't wear them for too long before my feet are really killing me.
