Kingdom Hearts Birth by Sleep

Last Updated: 08-01-2013

This crossplay was made in the time between AnimeNEXT and CTCon.. So about 3 weeks. My Aqua is in there too, hers was made in the same amount of time. We bought our Wayfinders on eBay, and I made both keyblades. :3

The wig:
My new Roxas wig. Originally a Punky, but I should have gotten a Punky S because of all the hair I cut off... It has the perfect thickness for the spikes & they stay together very well. It's lasted since AnimeNEXT without having to style it again, save for a few touchups with the hairspray.

The undershirt:
A sleeveless mock turtleneck I found at the Goodwill. Slightly stretchy. It's perfect for Ven, even if it's technically a woman's shirt... That's it.

The jacket:
The bane of this crossplay. >.> I did not use a pattern, which would probably have helped with making it but I didn't have the time to search for a good pattern to actually use... I took black rough linen (Pretty sure that's what it is) and white rough linen (slightly less rough than the black) and spliced them together. They actually feel like suiting fabric. Cut out the sleeve pieces, the "lining" is actually red cotton broadcloth, not actual lining. The piping is bias tape, same with the trim. It's still missing the zipper because, I had mistakenly bought a non-separating zipper for it & couldn't get back to the fabric store before CTCon so I couldn't put one on. It'll be added at a later date.

The "vest":
Actually attached to the inside of the jacket, on the red lining. It's just white broadcloth with lines made from some of the gray from the fabric I used for the pants' gray pieces, a hook-and-eye closure, white bias tape (trim), and a big white button.

The Mark of Mastery symbol is 2 pieces of Foamie glued together. The black straps are pleather, with a velcro closure in front.

The pants:
A pair of gray shorts I already had (they'll be replaced with a darker pair of pants later), gray fabric, cream-white fabric (stripes), and black fabric ("bell shape). The bell shape was a bit difficult to figure out but once I got it it was no problem, although I might remake the bell so it's more rounded all the way around.

The shoes:
A pair of hiking boots (extremely comfortable hiking boots), the soles were painted black. I used the strategy guide for BbS, and in those pictures Ven's shoes look like a silvery-blue. I may redo the blue areas on my shoes later on. The "crown" pieces are Foamie painted gold, with another layer of Foamie inside so it wouldn't break as easily. The red lines down the front (2mm thick), gold lines (2mm thick) and blue lines on the back of each shoe (6mm thick) are also Foamie, same with the black toe (also 6mm thick).

The armor pieces:
Made with Foamie & felt (backing) The ridges along the edges are hot glue. The shoulder piece attaches to my jacket sleeve with Velcro (I like using Velcro) and the "strap" also closes with Velcro. The belly armor pieces are made from the same materials; Foamie, felt, and hot glue. They're connected with a pleather strap (same as the straps of the Mark of Mastery symbol) which originally closed with Velcro but I ended up having to safety pin the strap closed by the end of the day.

Wayward Wind (Ven's keyblade):
The body is made of several layers of foamboard and a styrofoam cylinder. The teeth are foamboard, the round pieces the teeth are attached to are cardboard tubes. The whole thing was covered with Foamie & painted with acrylic paint. The chain is made from Foamie pieces, same with the charm. Because of the odd shapes of the chain this was the cheapest & easiest way I could think of to make it.

Master Keeper (my Aqua's keyblade):
Made with a wooden dowel and foamboard for the body/teeth. Also covered with Foamie pieces and painted with acrylic paint. The chain and charm are also Foamie (6mm thick). The only thing it's missing is the slight curving up at the top near the teeth, hopefully she adds that part herself; I didn't get to add that part because I was so pressed for time. I finished her keyblade the day we were leaving to go to CTCon so it was left out.
