The Doctor

The Christmas Invasion

Doctor Who

Originally I was going to do the blue suit for Dragon*Con, but I had put off things for too long. Then I realized that I still had enough time and money to do this one instead.

This is what the Tenth Doctor wears for his first episode. Jim-jams and a dressing gown with an apple and a satsuma in the pockets. It's actually a really simple cosplay.

At Dragon*Con 2010, after I complained about the wig I was using for The Doctor, a friend said that she had a wig she doesn't use or need that would be perfect and asked if I would like it. Of course I said yes. It was a lighter colored brown with dark blonde highlights. I dyed it using the FW ink method to get it to the right shade of brown. It's crimped at the roots, so the hair stays where I put it and makes it much easier to get to stick up.

Butterick B6837 is a great pattern. It has both the dressing gown and pajamas. I bought some anti-pill fleece from Jo-Ann's. It appears to be the right texture compared to the other fleeces. I'm adding the blanket stitch to the edges myself. Finding accurate pyjama fabric is impossible. So I found something that will work for now. I'm going to replace them with the fabric that's on Spoonflower as soon as it's available. The slippers I bought on Amazon. I'm not sure how accurate they are in the design because you don't get a good shot of his slippers very often. But they're the right style and color and have really good soles, so I'll be good wearing them indoors and out!

He does use the sonic for a little bit in the episode. The sight of it causes the 'pilot fish' to flee. So I'm going to make sure to have mine on hand to ward off any scavengers. It also helped keep the Master, Weeping Angels, and Gas Mask Zombies away. Jackie's friend sometimes gets hungry in the middle of the night, which is why there was an apple in one pocket and a satsuma in another pocket of the dressing gown. The satsuma did come in handy, so I figure having them on hand wouldn't be a bad thing. Sadly it's really hard to find small apples and satsumas that won't go bad. So I picked up a bag of small 'oranges'. I figure that The Doctor could spare a few.
