Tarzan is easily one of my top 4 favorite Disney movies (although which place it holds...I don't know. XD) I love it so much...And I also totally love Jane's outifts! 8D She has a really fun character, so cosplaying her had to be done. And (for some reason), her red skirt/beige tank top outift has always been one of my favorite outfits a Disney character has worn. So that's in the plan too. =}
I recently read a cosplay tutorial online (a tutorial which had nothing to do with Jane- it was actually for a Weeping Angel from Doctor Who. =/ lol (It was an amazing tutorial though!!)) in which the person said "The illusion is rather convincing." This phrase got me to thinking...for the rest of my cosplay past, my goal was always to make convincing illusions. But something happened recently which made me realize...I don't want to make illusions anymore. I want to make things real. Rather than make something that looks correct, I want something that IS correct. I don't know why, but this idea really appeals to me. O_O
The reason why I'm boring you with that story is because I tried to make this Jane dress real- The dress is made out of synthetic dupioni silk. It has a tiny bit of texture and is nice and stiff, but doesn't really have shine. It's what I pictured her dress to be made out of. I went with a buttery yellow vs vibrant, because I like it more. =P I also used taffeta, canvas, and linen, trying to make it more legit.
I bought the helmet online and altered it a bit, and the umbrella was a clear vinyl one that I covered and made pretty. =D
Also, this costume survived a day at Disneyland, including Space Mountain. Yesssss. XP Lol But seriously, being Jane at Disneyland was one of the best experiences of my life...Because there's not an actual Jane face character there, and because we were invited to be a part of the parade, I kinda felt like a legit character. Which is something I'd never, EVER imagined I'd be able to do...So that was pretty amazing. <3
