Actualy is my brother who is cosplaying...but I made the costume and he painted it!
Hi everyone! As some people asked me, here is a tutorial of how I made Alís armor! Itís the first time I try to write a tutorial, so be nice! And if something sounds strange here I apologize, itís been a while since I practiced my english! And Iím sorry again but I donít have the molds I used to make the armor, but I will try to draw again! (if you want the schemes of each piece send me you e-mail, cause I don't know how to put pictures here! >.<)
ē 4 or 6mm EVA
ē 2mm EVA
ē Silver paint
ē Blue and black fabric
Ok, the first step is to create models for each part using the newspaper. Always have a picture around to consult.
What I did was try to imagine how each part would look planned. Then, I drew them on the newspaper fitting the size of my brother (the one who used the costume).
When I got models that I liked I just drew them on the EVA and cut. I used the 4mm (or 6mm) EVA for the whole body and the 2mm EVA just for the head. To glue the EVA you can use hot glue or superglue (Iíd rather superglue but the tips of my fingers donít like it! xD). To mold EVA you need to heat it, so I used the stove flame for it (donít put the EVA direct in the fire, just near it! And be careful to not burn your fingers!). HumÖ In Brazil we use gas stoves, so I donít know if it would work on an electric stove. I suggest you use a candle.
When you get the whole armor finished in EVA itís time to waterproof it! For that you need the make a mixture using 2 parts of white glue to one part of water. You will pass about 7 layers of the mixture, waiting each one to dry, and it takes time! Normally I passed 2 layers a day, and took about 2 hours to pass each layer. Use a large brush for it!
Time to paint! I used silver spray paint. The spray paint wonít paint just the armor, but everything around it (and it can include your clothes), so protect the place using newspaper and use old clothes!
All right, almost done! You can add some details like some silver buttons on the joints, and make that thing that goes on Alís head (I made that using wire and fabric). I used blue fabric to make that loin-cloth (?) that Al uses.
To keep the parts on their places I used Velcro holding them on the clothe (my brother wore black pants and long-sleeved blouse under the armor, so yes, itís hot!). To hide the neck we used a piece of black fabric. The armor shoes were held by boots inside them.
Done! Hope Iíve helped! If there are any questions fell free to ask me!
