Fate/Stay Night

Last Updated: 08-19-2011

This was my first time cosplaying a character not from a video game (well I guess FSN is also a game but it's a visual novel okay) so I was a little afraid to cosplay her since I wasn't sure what the reception would be like. I'm glad I tried it because I loved being Saber!

The wig is a Jeannie in Platinum Blonde from Arda Wigs with a braided bun in the same color. I cut and curled the bangs with hair curlers and a hair dryer. I cut up the clip-on ponytail that came with the Jeannie for wefts, then sewed them over the bun, so you can't see any of the original bun. (Hey, it was only $5, and a nice base with the shape and size I wanted!)

I knew I needed a sword to make this costume recognizable and not just look like "gal with no fashion sense wandering the con." (And besides, I'm a prop junkie!) It's a papercraft I designed and built myself with cardstock, then primed it to make it water resistant and then paper mached it. I then cut out and glued pieces of cardboard on all the faces of the handle to make the surface smooth. (The blade was too big and would be too much of a pain to do that to it too.) The raised designs on the base of the blade are cardboard cutouts that were painted and glued on.

I did her casual outfit because I only had a month to make everything by the time I decided to cosplay Saber. But it was really comfortable, I love Saber to bits, and I loved meeting the FSN fandom! I plan to do at least one more version of Saber, and I want to make Avalon too!
