My cosplay for Expo which was part of a SE group with my brother, his best friend and one of my good friends. Pete loves the series and said how great it would be as a cosplay group, so voila.
The problems I ran into this costume were as follows. Firstly, the long hair is a very cheap extension I bought from my local charity shop for 50p. I figred I probably wouldn't use it for anything else, so there wasn't a lot of point in splashing out. This clashed majorly with the velcro keeping my armbands close-fitting which strands of it kept getting stuck to, and indeed anything pointy and with grip >.< Following on from the stripey armbands, my soft cream ones on my forearms were a pain too, since they had to put on exactly right otherwise they too were not tight enough and again got stuck to my feckin' hair >:C Moreover, I found putting my 'hair' up into a high ponytail (or as my mum said "So she has a Croydon face-lift?") extremely difficult as both the extension and my real hair had to be thin enough for the foam scrunchie to fit around otherwise it just collapsed ¬.¬ In addition, looping the belt correctly very difficult, and again the velcro did not stay so in the end I had to just tuck it under my belt. It consequently fell off on the way home :( Lastly, while the tight/sock hybrids were comfy, they didn't stay up properly so I had to keep hoiking them up whenever I got a chance ._.
Anyway, negatives aside, I loved being Tsubaki! I was basically recognised straight away most of the time [especially when I was with my Black☆Star and/or Kid] and people really loved our kama's which we were so thrilled with, since they are our first prop and we worked so hard on them! Cheers for everyone who took photos of us and stopped to talk, it made our efforts all the more worth it ^_^ I have learnt a lot about costume (and prop making) from this costume and from meeting a certain (& lovely) cosplayer who is hugely inspiring, so I can't wait for my next project; my friends and I have some major plans for it! Hope to see you at Expo in May!!
