Sleepy Hollow inspired gown

Robe a la franšaise worn Ó la Polonaise

Last Updated: 09-24-2011

I originally made this gown years and years ago. It was actually the first 18thC gown I ever made. I ran across it again while doing some de-stashing, and decided to revive it.
It needed a bit of work to make it presentable. I tacked down the pleats in the back to make them fall correctly, pulled up the sides to make it Ó la Polonaise. The trim added the trim to the front opening of the gown was actually salvaged from an older gown that I had cannibalized. The stomacher is just a bit of cross stitch canvas that was covered in beige twill, then covered again in a gold faux silk, overlaid with black lace and a bit of trim.
The petticoat I made completely new, since I hadn't bothered to make one the first time around. It is a simple black taffeta with a wide pleated ruffle for the bottom half.
The wig was made using a tutorial from Vivcore, which doesn't seem to be online anymore. It was unfinished in the back, so I clipped on a curly ponytail fall and pulled the curls up over the back to hide the unfinished part. What the fall didn't cover, I hid with the feathers.
