War of Austrian Succession

Hetalia: Axis Powers

I likes faux-military fanciness, apparently.
This is Hungary's fabulous Prussia-crushing white and green outfit from that one episode about the War of Austrian Succession. So you get to see it for about a minute, and there's scarcely any pictures which aren't screencaps. Still, it's got a nice hat, which is the main thing.
Made up of: green knee-britches (I don't much like full-length trews, but I can go for abbreviated ones); white frock coat with green trim; sash thing; neck ribbon; slightly buckety hat with some kind of gold hatpin; boots, and her usual hair flower.

I made the coat out of plain cotton drill, because it's serviceable and a good weight for the price. I'm planning to wear this as everyday clothes so it has to be not-too-costumey. The green bits are of cotton velvet offcuts I had left over from other things. It has huuuuge brass buttons, possibly overhuge, is trimmed with gold Cluny lace (sprayed gold), and has white cotton raschel lace at the cuffs. I hate cheap lace on cosplay. Use the good stuff!
Trews are of slightly stretch cotton moleskin. I like velvet, but it's crushable and hard to iron, and even in cotton it's still very warm. This is more hardwearing.
Neck ribbon is just a strip of gold taffeta. Hair flower was going to be a kanzashi but one that big would take a bit too long, so I just made some melted-edge layered petals out of pink and orange shot taffeta.

I attempted a hat in velvet too, over a heavy interfacing form, but it wasn't heavy enough and I didn't want to use up my good buckram on what's essentially fancy dress. Eventually I found a non-criminally-priced source for wool felt cones and capelines (the precursors to blocked hats), so I'm making it the same way as the one from my Prussia cosplay. I get both millinery practice and an extra hat. I ended up making a tricorne ('cos you know, you need a green tricorne around the house) but wearing it with the pointy end backwards. It's trimmed with some fabulously OTT gold floral lace, and a gold guipure rose applique.
Not sure about hair. There's not a consensus on Hungary's hair colour, it seems, so I went for a little-used redgold wig rather than a dedicated new one.

No spiffy pictures of this from Ayacon 'cos I only wore it at the last night party after it was dark, and wigless. So all the pictures are from a day out at the nearest available castle.
