The Last Unicorn

The Last Unicorn is one of my favorite books, and after meeting Peter S. Beagle at Otakon last year, I decided I really wanted to do this costume. My boyfriend, Hazard8726, agreed to be Prince Lir, so we made it happen for Halloween!
This costume was pretty easy to make; the dress took me about five days, working about three to five hours a day. It stays up because it's really tight, and because of an elastic band that runs around my arms and chest. The wig is from eBay and came pre-curled - I just cut the bangs.
The biggest part of this costume is undoubtedly the make-up. I used Ben Nye cake foundation to get Amalthea's porcelain skin tone. I think I got the desired effect, but it takes almost an hour and a half to put it all on (and it requires a helper to get my neck and upper back).
My favorite detail on this costume is my pair of purple contacts! They're just the right color, and they really complete the look.
In addition to having my Prince Lir, I also had two "unicorns" accompanying me at our Halloween party. My two lovely dogs patiently wore their unicorn horns for almost ten hours, and they were adorable!
