The Tattooed Lady
Sideshow Inspired Costume
Last Updated: 01-03-2012
This costume was made particularly for the Carnival du Freak new year ball, which was a sideshow themed party. A friend of mine was going as the Bearded Lady and wanted to do Rococo garb for the event, and asked me to join him, so I decided to go with a Rococo interpretation of the Tattooed Lady!
The skirt is made entirely of tulle and lace. The bottom most layer is three panels of 72" wide tulle gathered into the waist. The petals were each made individually by taking a 12" wide half-circle, trimming the hem with lace, and then applying crystals along the edge, and scattered around on the petal. I'm not really sure how many petals are on the gown, but I would guess it's about 25 or 26.
The original plan for the bodice was much more over the top, but the tattoo shirt and tights that I had bought to finish off the costume ended up not arriving in time, so I made a new bodice the night before the event. It's a simple bodice design with a stomacher and a ruffle at the waist to help blend in the bodice with the skirt.
I was lucky enough that a friend of mine that was also attending the party actually had a pair of tattoo sleeves that she let me borrow, so I was still able to claim Tattooed Lady status! :)
