What? You mean I can make a costume by Dremel sculpting!? Yes please!
A good friend and I are voracious Gears of War fangirls, and when her Husband didn't want to dress up as Baird, with her, I volunteered to dress up as Anya! (So we will be Anya Stroud and Samantha Byrne).
Initial templating (which I've never done before) took a lot more time than I anticipated, but once I got the hang of it, the project really started taking off. I have my boots nearly done, as well as knee pads, elbow guards and wrist guards. I FINALLY found suitable gloves, too.
It took awhile to find suitable lights, to light my shoulder straps with, but I finally did and they finally got here! Chest plate front is pretty much done, and chestplate back is ready to be assembled!
The two of us figure, worst case scenario, at the first convention we'll be wearing these at we can go without the chestplate. Here's to really hoping that isn't the case, but being really glad I have a fall-back plan!
Also, I love my husband's Dremel tool and now claim it as my own!
Good news! Chest plate is nearly finished and just waiting on some final assembly! My battery pack holders are in! I just need my door hinges so I can put on the metalic pieces and tubes (which need to be sealed separately so they are shiny).
I've been working on the patches for my leggings and belt pieces most of the day. Unfortunately, I didn't have enough mesh for the patches and accidentally tore 1/2 of it on top of that.
At this point, I', not sure if I'm going to be able to get the legging patches done before the con that I'm going to. At the very least, I'm hoping to get the front seams done...
Also, my puffy hip pieces are done (they're puffy on the top). Stapping is finished on all of the pieces that attach to my belt, except for one.
We went on with my costume a little over 95% done. There's some stuff I still need to do with my pouch (which I didn't use) and my little grenade, tube things. Also my canteen, which I keep forgetting about entirely. However, my AMAZING Sam and I won Best in Show at KitsuneKon (her 2nd time competing, and my first).
The little tweeks that I need to make to the costume will be done for formal photos and for ACen!
