Zindya, her bro and I decided to go all out for Malta Comic Con 2011 with our cosplays. We all liked Sucker Punch and wanted to do a skit based on it. I had grand visions of all the girls on stage, reenacting scenes from the film - and then we had no volunteers. Wah!
By this point, I'd already decided to be Sweet Pea: I'd even begun my costume; so I decided to keep going. We also rewrote our skit. And rehearsed our butts off. So worth it, since we won first place in the group skit contest.
Most of my energy was spent hammering the grommets into this costume. I swear there are at least a hundred of these things in here. Luckily the leather I used I thin, which made punching holes (not to mention sewing) much easier.
The over coat is made of thin fake leather. I used a princess seam dress pattern, which I altered to death. I love using the old family Singer sewing machine: armed with leathered needles, it goes through the leather like a knife through butter.
The hood is lined with some fake sheep skin. It fasten on to the back of the coat: it actually had to sew an 'extension' because the hood was too short when I first cut it.
The paudron was a lucky find. I found a random piece of foam, in the exact shape of a paudron, lying on the ground at University. I grabbed it, and turned it into a paudron. The only problem with it is that it slips down: I think I wil have to add an extra strap, and perhaps a belt loop on the coat to hold it securley (I had to take it off for the skit)
The gun belt needs to be remade. i didn't realise, but felt really stretches, so I spent most of the day trying to stop the straps falling off my shoulders. I might also add Sweet Pea's sword (which she never seems to use) and gun.
The boots are just generic goth-style boots. The only thigh high boots that I own have high heels, and wouldn't have been suitable for our skit. I've actually bought some suspender print tights to wear with this cosplay.
