Thores Shibamoto Artbook

Wanted to try making a costume that was different to my normal style. I haven't done much in the way of Appliqué so decided I wanted to have a go at doing more of that. I adore Thores Shibamoto's character designs for Trinity Blood so went with that version for Mirka. I chose Mirka due to her having blonde hair so I wouldn't need to invest in a wig for her.
This was mainly made from stock fabric. I brought in all the details for decoration. I designed the pattern for the clothes and made them from scratch using taffeta as a main fabric. I added pink gems to really add sparkle. The head piece was made from a piece of Sintra/foamex pvc which I had cut and shaped. I decorated it with gems and form flowers. The front armour was cut from more Sintra/foam pvc, shaped and then painted with acrylic paint. I ran out of time so the bust cups were never completed.
I completed the look with hair extensions matched to my own hair colour, coloured contacts and false lashes.
On the day I actually found the costume really uncomfortable to wear. I had to keep taking the front plates off which meant that there are a couple of shots where I don't have all the plates on. The character didn't suit me and I had made the neck line slightly too small so had to keep it undone at the back. Sadly, this costume didn't survive a house move as the head piece snapped and I lost one of the panels. I wasn't happy with how it turned out as I felt I rushed quite I bit of it. I made the whole costume in two weeks.
I did enjoy making it and doing something that was very different to my normal style.
