AKA my "what costume can I make entirely out of items I already have on hand?" cosplay! XD

This costume is an amano-inspired imagining of her Freelancer job class. I wanted to incorporate details from a couple of her artworks by Yoshitaka Amano, while still keeping the feel of her in-game sprite look. It isn't complete yet, as I was only able to finish the dress in time for Katsucon, but eventually I would like to have her orange-gold dress complemented with the colors from her in-game sprite, which has her boots, belt, and arm bands in varying shades of blues and greens, which I think would be very pretty.

Making this dress was very frustrating and took me FOREVER. It looks very simple, but I learned a lot of new techniques and skills making this dress as it required doing a bunch of things I had never done before... and everything kept going wrong or getting messed up! Seriously, I am still surprised that I was able to complete this in time.

The dress is made of an absolutely gorgeous gold/orange silk taffeta that was an absolute pain to work with. And I hadn't realized that I needed a special needle to sew it until the dress was mostly done so the stitching pulls in the seams and such. OH WELL. The fabric was also really thin & see-through, so it needed to be lined. This was my first time lining an entire dress and I kept mismatching the pieces because I'd get confused. ARGH. I seam-ripped and resewed those lining pieces SO MANY TIMES.

I also sewed in a bra for my own peace of mind, and it took 3 days! I bought a cheap bra at Walmart to cut up because the bra cups at the fabric store were all too big to fit me! And since the neckline plunges so low, I had to cut the bra up and make my own "u" shaped underwire which was a real pain! I had the terrible idea that I could save money by using a wire coathanger instead of going to the hardware store to buy wire, and because coathangers are made of STEEL wire it took me forever to saw through it with a hacksaw, then file down the sharp edges, then coat those in clear enamel. Way more involved and time-consuming than I expected it to be. But it looks really great and I felt really confident in my modesty while wearing it so it was worth aaaaaalll the trouble!

Perhaps you have noticed my fabulous pink wig. Yes it is a fantastic color! Yes, I know it is too long to be accurate (I didn't have time to trim it before the con). I will cut it to the correct length for the next con, once I sew additional wefts into it.

"Wefts?" You might inquire, "Whatever would you need to sew wefts in for?" I bought this gorgeous wig from the Shopping store, and it is soooo thin you can see my dark hair through it, even with a wig cap!!! The wig cap is also too small for me, and my head is tiny! I have never had issues with a wig being too small for me before, usually they are too big! I did what I could to pin it in place with lots of hair pins, but the wig kept sliding back and my dark hair was often exposed in photos that were taken of me at the con. ARGH, I am so mad about it, and disappointed that lots of otherwise great photos that I have of this costume are marred by the shortcomings of the wig. The color is absolutely beautiful, but there just isn't enough fiber in this wig! I purchased the Clover style, which is $38, and I have just spent another $30 on wefts to add to this wig. NOT COOL, but I'm shelling out because this color is so gorgeous. It is a cool-toned pink, which is much more flattering on my complexion because I am so fair-skinned, and unfortunately that store is the only one I could find that offered a pink color that was not warm-toned. :(

This costume is a work in progress, and I really love wearing it despite how frustrating it has been working on it! I will probably be adding to it and embellishing it as I go along, and when I get some spare moments I'll finish those boot covers and make a more dramatic belt! :)

Only 3 people recognized the character at Katsucon, and then only 2 more people on Facebook, but it didn't really bother me that much, I still had lots of fun cosplaying Lenna! Though I would like to have a Final Fantasy V group to run around with some time.

I am in love with the job classes from Final Fantasy V, and I adore cosplaying Lenna, so expect to see me cosplay some of her other job classes soon! :D
